Joy Doesn't Come Easy

Why JOY doesn’t come Easy

Joy certainly doesn’t come easy, as a matter of fact we push it away more than we even know. How?

With thoughts like...

·        I shouldn’t be happy.

·        I shouldn’t smile or laugh.

·        I shouldn’t dress up to much and do make up or my hair someone might think I don’t care or I don’t miss him.

·        It’s all going wrong

·        It shouldn’t be this way or that way.

·        I’m a horrible person, my body is horrible and noticing everything wrong with us, too fat, too skinny, wrinkles, bags here or there.

·        If she/he/they would just do “x” or act a certain way. Blaming everyone else for our emotions or looking for others to give us emotions we want.

·       Judging what someone did not do for us, or not being there for us.

The sad truth is, all the above actually come easy for us. We can do these things every day all day long, no problem.  These things don’t serve us in any way and we spend most of our time in these thoughts.

What’s not easy is the good work. Your brain is designed to take the easy way out and will give you those thoughts in a heartbeat. The good work is where you want to put your efforts. These look like…

·        Being kind to yourself no matter what. Show yourself love and compassion.

·        Knowing that worry is a waste of energy, it doesn’t prevent bad news, it actually might create it.  It certainly provides anxiety for you.

·        Practicing self-care and self-love daily.

·        Taking ownership of your life in a way that is empowering and energizing.

·        Stopping the “Shoulda shuffle” and claim that nothing has gone wrong here. You did the best you could with what you had or knew at the time.

·        Decide what you want and act from that place, not what others think.

·        Creating your feelings and emotions on purpose, no one else can give you the feeling your are chasing but you have the power to create it in you.

·        Doing thought work around all your thoughts when they come up and feeling and allowing feelings on purpose

That is the hard work, Joy is hard work.

To have joy you must take control of your mind and question all the thoughts that come up.  Our natural default setting is to scan for problems. Did you know that all these prohibiting thoughts used to actually be good for you.  It’s how our ancestors survived before civilization. But today your not fighting tigers for your life anymore, it’s ok to get uncomfortable, to choose the hard route, to question your thoughts.

Go ahead Get nosy, get curious with yourself and ask…

·        Is this thought really something your ok with?

·        A feeing you want to keep?

·        Does it serve you?

If not ask this question – How is the opposite of this thought true?

Let's grab onto that and  do the work to get rid of the thoughts that inhibit us, and have more of the ones that help us grow and claim our lives.

Let’s do the work of Joy and healing will be a part of that.
